Project Description: 

The principal objective is to promote the resilience of vulnerable population living in areas most affected by natural and human induced disasters in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Project specific objective shall be to strengthen the capacity of government institutions, vulnerable communities and schools in KPK for addressing disaster risk in an institutionalized and sustainable manner through consolidation of inclusive CBDRM and SBDRM methodologies The current project focusses on the pillar 2 & 3 of Comprehensive School Safety Framework. Coordination with stakeholders at national & provincial level remains persistent with the previous action. Under the umbrella of Pakistan School Safety Framework (PSSF) developed by National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), the education sector contingency planning guidelines as per INEE standards shall be developed. The guidelines will provide direction to stakeholders and teachers to respond timely in case of emergencies. In parallel to this, the curriculum for integrating DRR into grade 1-12 shall be developed with consultation of Directorate of Curriculum & teachers Education (DCTE). The Scope & sequencing shall be the first step for curriculum development. Based on that, Student Learning Objectives (SLOs) shall be developed in consultation with DCTE, PITE & consultant(s).
Training on SBDRM through cascade training approach shall remain an important component of this project as well. PITE master trainers shall be trained on the same content developed under previous action. Subsequently, the master trainers shall be trained at school & cluster level. Support to Education Department KP shall be provided to consolidate SBDRM Model approaches and strengthen institutionalization in government workflow by supporting the preparation/implementation of PCII - PCIII for funds allocation and utilization (for PCI prepared in previous action).

The specific project results are:

  1. School Disaster Management is strengthened via provincial, district and sub-district education authorities and local school communities (including children and parents), working in collaboration with their disaster management counterparts at each jurisdiction, in order to maintain safe learning environments and plan for educational continuity, conforming to international standards.
  2. Risk Reduction and Resilience Education is designed to develop a culture of safety among students and contribute to resilient communities
  3. Improved coordination for effective implementation of DP/DRR actions
